Countdown to Christmas Day Eighteen: Cookies for Santa

Baking cookies for Santa Claus is extremely important for little kids, as to them Santa might not deliver presents without a little something on the table. But even now, when Santa’s existence is a little more questionable, baking Christmas cookies is still an important holiday tradition to me. Getting to decorate sugar cookies and pick out all the different shapes of the cutters is actually so much fun. And now, with the stress of final grades constantly weighing everyone down, sometimes rolling out the dough and smelling the freshly baked cookies in the oven can calm your nerves. Plus, eating your feelings of stress away once the cookies are done doesn’t hurt either.

I am sure that many of you have your own recipes to use, but if you don’t, try this sugar cookie recipe! (For frosting, I like to follow the recipe on the back of the C&H powdered sugar box and add food coloring). There are tons of different cookies to test, but when in doubt, always go with the classic sugar cookie, especially when you are in the mood to decorate. Whether your cookies go to Santa or simply to your own stomach, enjoy this holiday tradition!

Recipe:

1 cup butter
3 cups flour
3 eggs
1 ½ cups sugar
1 tsp. baking soda

Story continues below advertisement

Cut butter into flour. In separate bowl, beat eggs. Add sugar. Stir eggs/sugar into flower. Add baking soda. Refrigerate. Roll out and cut into the shape of your choice. Bake at 375 degrees for 8-10 minutes.

*Note: If you choose to use frosting, wait until the cookies cool off and then frost them and add decorations. If you choose to decorate straight onto the cookies, put the sprinkles, etc. on the cookie before placing it in the oven.
