Students and Parents Learn in College Fair

The College Career Center hosted the annual College Fair in the large gym on Tuesday, March 27.

Representatives from 63 colleges gave out information about their schools’ majors, student life, financial aid and entrance requirements. Participating colleges included Cornell University, Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, Hawaii Pacific University, University of Colorado at Boulder, Pomona College, Salon Professional Academy, Brown University, UCLA, San Jose State University, Foothill College and the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Along with taking brochures, students and parents browsed through the multiple booths and asked the representatives questions about their specific school.

“The college representatives were very helpful and gave me a lot of useful information,” junior Steven Dittmer said. “There’s a great diversity of schools here. I have a lot more colleges that I’m planning on applying to now.”

Test preparation companies Catalyst Prep, Eureka Review, Princeton Review and Revolution Prep were also present at the entrance of the large gym. These companies offered test taking classes and practice exams for students interested in taking the ACT and SAT.

Student workshops also took place in the 400 wing. Topics included general college information, college essays and letters of recommendation.

“The college essay workshop was helpful,” sophomore Matt Nero said. “I haven’t actually thought about the college application process before, but now I actually know what to do when it’s time to apply to colleges and write essays.”
