Today, February 5, the Club for Gender Equality members encouraged students to appreciate themselves. Throughout the lunch period, members of the club stood in the quad and encouraged students to write something complimentary about their own physical appearance, academic talent or any other positive attribute.

“We’re often told that we shouldn’t say nice things about ourselves because it’s vain and narcissistic, and the Club for Gender Equality wanted to remind people that it’s healthy to appreciate yourself,” club president sophomore Julia Khan said.

While the event had a larger than expected turnout, Julia realized younger girls found the activity difficult.

“[The girls] said that it would be weird to write something nice about themselves or that they couldn’t think of anything complimentary,” Julia said. “I thought that this was off-putting. Everyone has outstanding qualities that they should recognize!”
