Cheer Team Holds Successful Fundraiser

This past week, the cheer team held a fundraiser for the breast cancer organization Susan G. Komen foundation, selling pins with slogans such as “courage”, “fight, cure, win”, and “man enough to wear pink” at lunch in the quad. Each pin sold for $1 and sold out on Tuesday, raising a total of $321.40.

“The fundraiser was supposed to end Friday but since we sold out, it ended [on Tuesday],” sophomore Kelly Little said. “Last year we sold wristbands, and we wanted to try selling something new this year.”

In support of breast cancer awareness month, which is every October, the team coordinated this fundraiser and wore pink bows to school every day. The team plans on wearing pink jerseys to the football game tomorrow, October 25, to finish off the week.

Team captains seniors Alannah Zib, Roxanne Rogers and Nathalie Preciado, along with team coach Nikia Alayoubi led the fundraising and spirit.

“The captains and our cheer coach are the main figures in putting together the fundraiser, but the whole team pitches in,” Kelly said. “This fundraiser hits home for a lot of team members, as it’s just a wonderful cause, and we wanted to do as much as we could to help raise money.”
