The cheer team will hold an electronic waste fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the school tomorrow, March 2, for the second year in a row. The event is hosted by Green Mouse Recycling.
“We choose to do an e-waste fundraiser because it is a good way to raise money for our team,” Co-captain junior Roxanne Rogers said. “It is also a good way to help the community and environment.”
Half of the revenue generated by Green Mouse Recycling will be donated directly to the cheerleaders, who will use the money to pay off some debts.
“ASB bought us mats so we have to pay them back,” senior Morgan Jaffe said. “The school is sending us to Nationals [and] we have to pay that back, too.”
The cheer team will be competing later this month at the national competition, from Thursday, March 14 to Sunday, March 17 at Disneyland in Anaheim.
“We’re doing really well,” Morgan said. “We’ve been practicing on our routine nonstop since the beginning of January and it’s been coming along.”
The e-waste fundraiser will accept the following: monitors, televisions, computers, laptops, telecom equipment, wire/cable, PC boards, scrap metal, mice, keyboards, printers, fax and copy machines, stereo equipment, DVD/CD/MP3 players, microwave ovens, small appliances, VHS, audio cassette tapes and more.
