Boys Soccer Loses 1-2 in Close Match

With the soccer game about to end, it seemed like the Eagles would tie 1-1 with Santa Clara High School–until Santa Clara sent in a last-minute corner kick.

“We had a very bad game last night,” senior Sean McLoughlin said, referring to the game last Friday, January 11.

The Eagles lost 1-2, and the game dropped the team’s record to 1-2, which Sean said does not accurately represent the team’s abilities or players.

“Those two losses undoubtedly should have been wins,” Sean said. “I believe we have the best players in the league. …We [just] did not play to our technical strengths against Santa Clara.”

The game started out with an early first half goal by Santa Clara, but the Eagles managed to tie the game with 15 minutes left in regulation. The final goal, scored at the end of the game, ended hopes of a Los Altos victory.

“Santa Clara is a team we should easily beat,” Sean said.

The coming games will decide the playoff potential of the Eagles, and consequently are pivotal for the team.

“We need to win [this coming game] in order to have any chance of winning the league,” Sean said.

The boys soccer team will play next against Homestead High School.
