Boys Basketball Defeats Mt. Pleasant 61-50

Led by a strong offense, the boys varsity basketball team defeated Mt. Pleasant High School by a score of 61-50, yesterday, December 10. The Eagles had the lead for the whole game, but battled throughout to obtain the victory.

Early in the game, the Eagles made it harder on themselves at times by pressing too much and trying to make too many things happen.

“In the first half, we tried to do too much,” Co-captain senior Kieran Stolorz said. “We did a good job in the second half of staying patient on offense and letting things come to us.”

One thing the Eagles took advantage of was breaking the press. This lead to good offensive opportunities by helping the team catch the Mt. Pleasant defense off guard. Kieran led the Eagles’ strong offense with 12 points

However, the Eagles struggled on defense. They did not close out as well as they would have liked and also did not execute their defensive rotations as they usually do.

“There were flashes of great basketball, but far too many defensive breakdowns,” Kieran said. “After starting out very strong, we fell into a lull, and started playing down to their level.”

The Eagles were up by only  5 points at halftime. They played well in the second half and at the beginning of the fourth quarter they went on a run that helped to put the game out of reach. Mt. Pleasant made a little run at the end of the game, but the deficit was too much to overcome.

The Eagles look to improve on their game and bring home another victory as they play the first game in the Prospect Tournament this Wednesday, December 12.

“[Senior] Nate [Becker] and I need to do a better job of leading the guys and making sure we always play to our full potential,” Kieran said. “We need to clean up a lot of the little details, so that we can put together a complete game.”
