Boys Basketball Come Out Victorious Against Wildcats

The boys basketball team faced off against Los Gatos on Wednesday, January 29, and came out victorious, beating the Wildcats 45-37. The Eagles are now 6-0 in their league and hold a 14-5 overall record.

The low-scoring game on both ends can be attributed to both the Eagles’ solid defense and the sluggishness of Los Altos’ second quarter offense, in which it only scored four points. During the start of the third quarter, the Eagles gained momentum.

“We went off in the beginning of the second half,” senior Steven Garverick said. “[We] came back from about ten and gained a lead in the third quarter… [For instance,] Joey had a 6 point run in the beginning of the third.”

A pep talk from Coach Bob McFarlane during half-time served to shake the Eagles out of their first half trance, as they jumped back from a mediocre second quarter to a fast-paced offense during the third.

Leading this comeback was junior Daniel Rosenbaum, who would go on to score a team-high 14 points in the game.

Once again, the team’s notoriously spirited attitude towards hard work and sacrificing everything for the team’s win paid dividends.

Another variable that contributed to the team’s win is the often underacknowledged spirit and brains of the team: senior Bryan Lai.

“[Bryan] had some solid minutes. He always has good input; [Bryan’s] like an extra coach,” said Steven.

Given the game and the Eagle’s solidly played defense, the team aims on honing in on its offense. The team will have a bye tomorrow, January 31. The Eagles hope to extend their current six game win streak into seven as they play an away-game at Palo Alto on February 5.
