Blood Drive Ends with 105 Donations

The LAHS blood drive, held twice a year by the Youth Engaged in Advancing Health (YEAH) Club , took place in the small gym on Friday, November 16. Students made 94 blood donations and 11 donations of only red blood cells.

Many people such as junior Fiona Stolorz came throughout the day to donate blood. Most people had previously set appointments, however, there were also several walk-ins.

“I decided to donate blood because I had drawn blood a couple of times before and knew that it wasn’t that bad, and I know that a lot of other people do,” Fiona said. “So I thought, why not?”

Stanford Hospital received the blood, and it will send blood to any local facility in need.

“I know that it is helping someone, so it is really rewarding for a good cause,” Fiona said.

Although this year brought in a lot of donations, there is always a need for blood. Students are encouraged by this year’s participants to consider helping out next year whether or not they already have donated.

“I definitely recommend other people [donate blood] if they don’t have a problem with blood and needles,” Fiona said. “I am really glad that I did it.”
