Boys Basketball Beats Santa Clara 61-34

The varsity boys basketball team faced off against Santa Clara High School in a fast-paced, exciting game yesterday, February 1. Although the game began as a close-scoring, challenging match, the Eagles soon took the lead and kept it for the duration of the match.

The first quarter began steadily. Junior Joey Malgesini and senior Nate Viera kept up scoring to end the first quarter at 11-7 in favor of Santa Clara. In the second quarter, the team surged back to make the score 30-21 in the Eagles’ favor by halftime. Sophomore Daniel Rosenbaum scored several times, with more shots coming in from Nate. Senior Conrad Rodgers made some excellent free thows, while Nate kept up a consistent line of breakaways that offered the Eagles many chances to score.

In the third quarter the Eagles kept up the intensity and scored 15 more points to bring the score to 45-30 by the end of the quarter. With 4 minutes left in the game, the team had a 20 point lead, and did not stop. The team continued to score as the minutes dwindled, and with junior Bryan Lai’s last minute three-point shot, finished the game at 61-34.

The Eagles’ next game is tonight at 7 p.m. against Mountain View High School.
