Baseball Slips Past Wilcox 6-5

The Eagles won a tight game today, March 28, against the Wilcox High School Chargers, conceding a few runs early but coming back mid-game to seal a 6-5 win in the tenth inning.

“It didn’t start off too great,” senior Luke Wiechec said. “We weren’t really prepared mentally and it took us to the fifth inning to get going, but we pulled together and clinched the victory anyways.”

The Chargers caught the LAHS starters off guard, batting in a few runs early in the game. The Eagles picked up steam in the fifth, however, and were able to come back from behind.

The Eagles’ defense in the later innings proved solid, as they shut the Chargers down completely in the sixth inning. Catcher senior Shuyo Chang threw out two steals to kill Wilcox’s rally, giving the Eagles the opportunity to take the lead.

Junior Dominic Gachina ran in the final run, sealing the Eagle’s fifth victory in league play.

Recent rains made the play a bit more unpredictable, but sunny skies made for a beautiful ballgame

“The weather last night affected the game more than the weather today,” Luke said. “It made the ground muddy and softer.”

The Eagles play Wilcox again on Friday, March 30 as they hope to claim their sixth consecutive league victory.
