Baseball Gets New Coach

The administration signed a new coach for the baseball team this upcoming season. Following the spectacular success of last season, the varsity baseball team hopes to continue its distinguished tradition under the leadership of last year’s assistant coach, Don Ecker. “Donnie” was selected for the position from a group of over a dozen applicants. He is looking to take the team back to CCS for another successful run.

“We had a great deal of candidates,” Athletic Director Kim Cave said. “We paper-screened down to the top five, we interviewed those five people, and then we forwarded those names to the principal, who has the second round of interviews. Then, based on our recommendations, she makes a decision, and then we offer the position…and [Ecker] accepted.”

Ecker has had more than a sufficient amount of baseball experience. He was drafted to the major leagues, and although a professional career did not work out, he learned a lot from the experience. After working under previous coach Sandy Wihtol for the last two years, Ecker stands ready to take the helm.

The baseball program will have big shoes to fill; over the past two years, it has developed tradition of CCS success. It is still to be determined who will join Ecker on the coaching staff, but a decision should be made within the upcoming weeks.
