Baseball Falls 0-6 to Saratoga

The varsity baseball team lost to the Saratoga Falcons 0-6 yesterday, April 19. The team struggled to get hits and base runners throughout the game. As Saratoga built a rhythm and scored runs, the Eagles’ pitching fell apart.

“We didn’t score, so that [was bad],” junior Will Becker said.

The loss was particularly disconcerting as the team can no longer control whether or not they make CCS.

“With our second loss to Saratoga this week, we took ourselves out of the position to control our fate as far as making CCS goes,” Will said. “If we won both games, we would have clinched the final spot.”

The Eagles’ playoff hopes now rest on the record of other teams for the remainder of the season. In order to reach CCS, the Eagles will have to win the rest of their games and hope for other teams to lose their own.

“That game and series in general (against Saratoga) is something we just need to put behind us and not let carry over into next week,” Will said. “Last week kind of showed us that in order to be successful as a team we really need to stick to the approach that Coach Ecker has been trying to get through to us: fearlessly attacking the game, not letting the moment get too big for us, and just playing our style of fast-paced baseball.”
