Baseball Beats Homestead 7-5

The varsity baseball defeated Homestead High School 7-5, today, April 4. The game went back and forth as both teams battled for the win, but in the end the Eagles secured a lead and improved their record to 14-3.

Homestead led the first inning 2-0 off a home run by the team’s second batter. Los Altos then answered back with one run. In the third inning, Los Altos made a few mistakes and Homestead capitalized, racking up the score to 4-1 in favor of Homestead. Both teams continued to fight for the lead and traded off runs until Los Altos scored 2 runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a decisive 7-5 lead. The Eagles were able to hold off the Homestead offense for the rest of the game, securing the victory.

“Today we weren’t all there mentally and didn’t play the way we are capable of,” junior Steven McLean said. “We are a great team and we need to play like we are. We are better than the way we played today but a win is a win and we’ll take it.”

Yesterday, the team played against Valley Christian and ended up losing the game on a walk off a home run. The energy level today was much lower. The team is working on being consistently mentally ready for games.

“We need to finish out the league strong, coming out to every game mentally prepared and focused,” Steven said.

The team will face off against Homestead again on Friday, April 6.
