AVID Students Participate in World Book Night

Every year on April 23, tens of thousands of people participate in World Book Night. The goal of this internationally recognized event is to distribute paperback books to individuals in local communities. This year, AVID students in the MVLA district will be receiving a portion of these free books from World Book Night.

World Book Night, a nonprofit organization, bears the same name as the event it hosts annually. The organization collects a large number of books through the support of donations from booksellers, libraries and other individuals. These books are then distributed to members of the community. In this case, MVLA Community Scholars worked with World Book Night to bring books to AVID students.

“It is about giving books and encouraging reading in those who don’t regularly do so,” Public Relations Coordinator for MVLA Community Scholars Renee Hinson said. “It’s also about people, communities and connections, about reaching out to others and touching lives in the simplest of ways–through the sharing of stories.”
