Athletic Department Fundraises with Christmas Tree Lot

The school and MVHS have been running a Christmas Tree Lot fundraiser since Friday, November 23, to aid the two schools’ respective athletic departments. The tree lot is located on the corner of El Monte Ave and El Camino Real. It is open from 4 to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekends. While the lot is scheduled to stay open until December 20, it could remain until December 23 if the trees do not sell out.

The money raised will be split between MVHS and LAHS, the money for LAHS going towards the Athletic Boosters, from which it will be used to help pay for sport equipments, uniforms, training for coaches and state tournaments.

Although only parents man the booth during the weekdays, athletes come out and support the cause during the weekends and holidays. The students involved all participate in winter sports, including boys and girls soccer, boys and girls basketball and wrestling. The athletes receive community service hours for the time that they help out at the lot.

“Last year, we raised a total of $31 thousand,” fundraiser organizer Jerry Sorenson said. “There has been a 10-15% increase each year so we definitely expect more this year.”
