Tyler Caledron has seen all levels of Los Altos High School athletics. He’s competed as an athlete, been an assistant coach for two sports, and is now stepping up as the 2024–25 wrestling head coach.
“I want to create a culture where we have wrestlers who want to come back,” Caledron said. “I want to get other people excited and come out to wrestling.”
“He has that passion of really wanting to do what’s right for the kids and supporting them, at all levels,” Athletic Director Michelle Noeth said.
Calderon started at LAHS last year as an assistant coach for wrestling and football.
“I want to have an intertwined program as the coach for football and wrestling,” Caledron said. “There’s a lot of transitional skills between wrestling and football and aspects of being an athlete that carry over. Skills such as learning leverage, body control, and awareness come into play not only on the field but also on the mat.”
Noeth emphasizes the importance of student connection and encouragement when it comes to recruitment of the wrestling program. She claims students value their peers’ encouragement the most — making Caledron’s prior experience as an LAHS wrestler one of his strongest qualities.
“In the end, students are the ones that are doing all the grinding and the commitment to practices and competitions,” Noeth said. “Because he was a student here, he knows all of the pressures of academics. Having somebody who has been here will help our athletes.”
“Coach TC really understands what it’s like being a student-athlete,” junior Raphael Olteanu said. “I think that’ll make it a little easier on the mind of the athletes.”
Raphael also mentioned that as an assistant wrestling coach, Caledron would help him and other wrestling team members drive to practices.
“He was there for all of the JV tournaments, in addition to varsity,” Raphael said. “He cared for the team as a whole.”
“It’s nostalgic,” Caledron said. “Coaching at my former high school is going full circle.”
