Varsity wrestler senior Matt Sell made the school proud February 23 by qualifying for California’s state championships. Only six other wrestlers in the school’s history have made the same achievement. At the CCS competition at Independence High School in San Jose last month, Matt pinned five of his six challenges—a rare feat, as pinning is uncommon in competition at such a high level. Senior Calvin Hu and juniors Enrique Calderon, Duncan Tormey Kevin Tsou also made it to CCS but did not qualify for state.

Matt is among the top 32 high school wrestlers in his weight class statewide. The state championships are scheduled to held in Bakersfield, California on March 1.
