Varsity football’s Homecoming game ended in a devastating 0–27 loss to the Terra Nova High School Tigers Friday, Oct. 3. This game also marked the Eagles’ league opener, setting the team down 0–1 in the El Camino League.
“We couldn’t get it done this time, but I’m proud of the boys,” senior captain Colin Chin said. “So after this game, it’s about bouncing back and learning from our mistakes.”
Leading up to the homecoming game, Colin said the team went all in.
“You could tell this game really mattered to the team because it was homecoming,” Colin said. “Everyone showed up and everyone was locked in.”
But that wasn’t enough to take over the Tigers, who were just booted from the higher Ocean League after a 0–5 season last fall. In just the first half, Terra Nova gained a 20-point advantage despite Los Altos’ attempts to run more defensive plays.
The Eagles stepped up their defense in the second half, allowing only one touchdown in the rest of the game. The Eagles worked hard to run plays and correct previous technical mistakes, giving everything for the seniors’ last homecoming game.
“Even though it might not look like it, we really fought out there,” Colin said. “We knew the stakes of it being our last homecoming game.”
Despite the loss, students blacked out the stands for the game theme “Batman,” Blue Crew led chants and cheerleaders danced and hyped up the crowd.
“I really appreciate the crowd that we had for this game,” senior Ever Cisneros said. “Whenever we have a big crowd, they bring the energy that we need when we’re losing.”
Six games down, the Eagles are just halfway done with their season. In league, they’ll play Santa Clara, Fremont and South San Francisco. Non-league play features matchups against Gunn and Mountain View to close out the regular season.
“We know what we’re capable of and we just had to believe,” junior Giancarlo Mendoza said. “We have to be prideful in wearing the Los Altos uniform.”
The Eagles, now with an overall record of 1–5, will play their next game at home against Gunn High School Friday, Oct. 17.
