Yesterday, the Los Altos High School varsity girls field hockey team lost 3–0 against the Valley Christian High School Warriors during its first home game of the season.
The Warriors scored their first goal against the Eagles during the first quarter, and following, junior Maddie Ross was green carded after not keeping a safe distance from an opponent taking a free hit.
“We need to do better on marking, specifically in transition,” Maddie said. “I think better communication would allow us to have better marking and positioning.”
The Warriors scored two more goals in the second and third quarters, and the Eagles ended up losing 3–0.
While the Eagles now hold an overall record of 0–2, the players have a positive mindset and they view the losses as an opportunity to understand their points of improvement.
“I think the game was good and we did a lot better with passing and moving up the field,” junior Allie Hepworth said. “Some of the skills that we’ve been working on in practice showed, but we can still communicate more.”
“Allie ran the ball all the way up the field and then the goalie stepped on it so we got a corner, which was a good thing,” junior Lauren Maranhao said. “Our team really came together and had a great first home game.”
The Eagles will play their next game away against the Cupertino High School Pioneers next Tuesday, September 19 at 4 p.m.
