On Monday, October 30, the Los Altos High School varsity girls field hockey team lost 1–0 against the Leigh High School Longhorns in round one of CCS playoffs.
The Longhorns scored against the Eagles during the third quarter. Throughout the rest of the game, the Eagles kept the Longhorns on their side of the field, pushed them to their sidelines, and prevented them from switching the ball between players.
“The game was a close, end-to-end match,” junior Piper Chatwin said. “We got into their circle a lot and won some corners, but I think we had trouble taking advantage of set plays during the third quarter.”
The Eagles held an overall record of 5–12–2 and finished sixth in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League. Despite some lows, the team never lost their spirit and remained cheerful all season.
“It was by far the best game we’ve played this season,” junior Allie Hepworth said. “I’ve gotten a lot more confident with my hits compared to the beginning of the season.”
Even when they were off the field, the team still found ways to spend time with each other, such as hosting spirit days and team parties, like a team sleepover.
“This season was amazing, and all of us girls got really close and we really pulled through with the final game,” junior Lauren Maranhao said.
