Yesterday, on February 18, the varsity boys soccer team fell 1–0 against Mountain View High School on its senior night. This was the Eagle’s second loss to the Spartans during the league season.
“We were very close to becoming the league champions,” Head Coach Roberto Magellan said. “We’re in a good spot for CCS and will most likely be in Division I, which won’t be easy.”
The Eagles came out strong to kick off the first half, immediately pushing into Spartan territory. Multiple shot attempts were taken against Mountain View, including attempts from seniors Connor Salita and Kapil Jakatdar, but the Eagles failed to find the back of the net.
“We needed to attack more, be more confident in ourselves, and make smarter plays,” Magellan said.
Entering the second half 0–0, the Spartans challenged the Eagle defense and scored, leading 1–0 in the game’s remaining minutes. Despite keeping pressure on the Spartans, Los Altos could not secure a tying point.
“It was a tough loss, but we can beat Mountain View next time,” senior Jay Easterday said. “We came out with a lot of passion and effort, so I know we’ll have a good shot.”
Prior to the match, the seniors were honored with posters, flowers, and speeches from the varsity underclassmen.

“It was really bittersweet coming into this,” senior Dylan Kovarcik said. “My first year was being an understudy for the previous seniors, and now I’ve grown to be a mentor for the underclassmen. This team is like a family, and I think being a senior makes me comfortable communicating with people.”
“I happened to have coached some of the seniors when they were on JV,” Magellan said. “Coaching both teams was great for the overall team camaraderie and my relationship with the players, which has been showing this season.”
The Eagles enter CCS after ranking second in the De Anza league with a 10–3–1 record. Their first CCS match opponent has yet to be determined.
