Girls soccer defeated Palo Alto High School 2-1 in a home game on Friday, January 21 for their first league victory of the season.
The Eagles led for much of a game, as freshman Julia Goupil scored in the first half for a 1-0 lead. They held the lead for a majority of the second half, until an unfortunate turnover by the Eagles led to a Palo Alto goal with less than 10 minutes remaining in the game.
However, sophomore Izz Lefebvre provided the heroics to lead the Eagles to a victory. After a long through-ball by junior captain Sasha Pchenitchnikova, Izz’s first shot on goal bounced off the goalie’s hands. However, she was able to outrace the goalie and other Palo Alto defenders to the ball at the top of the goal box and powered it in with only a few minutes remaining.
After holding on, the Eagles had their first league victory, raising their record to 1-2-2 for the season.
Sasha said the Eagle’s first victory came because “everyone tried 110 percent today and really put a lot of effort into this game.”
