Hey Eagles! The Scouting Report is back, and with the winter season starting, we have some predictions for the upcoming girls basketball season. Everything is about to change, with new players joining the team and old ones leaving.
Don’t let the loss of prior players from last year’s successful team discourage you from the exciting season ahead. With Head Coach Brittany Taylor and Assistant Coach Ray Stribling, the Eagles collected one win and just two losses against San Mateo 30–37 and Harker 71–35, all non-league, in just the first month of training the team. This matches their stats from the previous season, with their first three games 1–2, with two losses against Evergreen Valley 68–48 and Fremont 57–38, and one win against Santa Teresa 47–33.
Though the team lost some notable seniors, a fresh roster opened the door for others to shine. In their most recent overtime 51–44 win against the Mountain View Spartans, we have seen new players step up and lead.
During that game, freshman Chloe D’Amico led with 14 rebounds, making every missed shot offensively and defensively count. Junior Chinglam Tseung dropped 20 points — 40% of the Eagles’ entire score. Another standout player was junior Ella Mcfarlane, who recorded five steals, and senior Karla Araracap, who was close behind with three, keeping the pressure on the Spartans throughout the game.
Of course, these aren’t the only changes in the program. Girls basketball also added a freshman team to the program — there was so much interest that two teams weren’t enough. Their team is led by head coach Juan Arreola their next game being on Thursday, December 12 against Burlingame.
There will inevitably be challenges and hardships that every serious sports team has to overcome, but with commitment, it’s nothing the Eagles can’t handle.
Signing off,
The Scouting Report Crew
