Various musical groups at the school will be performing with band students from Egan Junior High School at the Music Department’s annual Band Night tomorrow, Friday, January 29. The concert will take place from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.
Following Band Night, the annual Orchestra Night will take place on Saturday, January 30, with orchestra students from Egan performing with LAHS’s orchestral groups in the Eagle Theatre.
During tomorrow’s concert, Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble will play with Egan band students in the Eagle Theatre, while the high school’s Jazz Band will conclude the concert in the cafeteria.
According to Music Department Director Ted Ferrucci, the purpose of the concerts is to “introduce the incoming class to the music program at LAHS.”
The concerts are also meant to provide an opportunity for Egan parents to see the high school’s music classes.
Egan band students are scheduled to open tomorrow’s concert, and the concert will end with the eighth graders playing two pieces together with Wind Ensemble: “Rivers” and “Ascend.”
“They’re good pieces that challenge both high school kids and younger musicians,” Ferrucci said.
To prepare for the concert, students from both schools attended a joint rehearsal today, January 28, from 8:15 to 9:50 a.m.
“I liked playing with [the Egan band students] because it was interesting to look at their skill level and imagine what that will look like in a few years,” senior Faye Cheng said. “It’s exciting.”
