On Thursday, October 30, the varsity girls volleyball team defeated the Mountain View Spartans 3-1, beating Los Altos’ cross-town rival for the second time this season.
The team ended up winning in four sets: it won the first two sets of the match 25-21 and 25-13, lost the third 22-25 , but refocused to take the fourth 25-22 and ultimately claim victory.
“We underestimated [Mountain View] a little and allowed them to get a lead in the third but we fought back and almost won that game even,” senior co-captain Carmen Annevelink said.
The gym was bursting with energy, especially from a spirited Blue Crew in the stands. Los Altos was able to gather itself together after the third game and fed off the energy of the crowd to win the match.
“We were able to play our best because of our outstanding energy, since it was potentially our last game of the season in the home gym,” senior Kristen Liu said.
In addition to the team’s success, tonight was a significant event for Carmen, who broke 1,000 kills in her high school varsity career after this game.
Thursday was also the Eagles’ senior night, during which each senior on the team was honored for her commitment to the team.
Los Altos is now 11-0 in league, with one final league game against Gunn on Tuesday, November 4.
The team will next compete against Milpitas High School on Saturday, November 1, in the Spikefest Tournament.
