On Tuesday, January 27, the varsity girls soccer team won its first league game against Los Gatos, claiming a 2-1 victory on home turf. This victory proved the team has the necessary skills to win games, as long as the players keep their momentum throughout the whole game.
“I think today it really came down to willpower,” senior co-captain Rebecca Andrews said. “In a lot of the games, we dominate, but make a few costly mistakes and fail to finish our opportunities. Today we made it happen.”
The game started off well for the team. Within the first five minutes of the game, Rebecca scored on a corner kick from senior co-captain Allie Crum.
Los Altos remained predominantly in control of the ball for the rest of the half, until a quick interception and shot from Los Gatos made the score an even 1-1.
The second half of the game was an intense battle until the very end. Los Altos pulled out the win within the last five minutes of the game from a shot from sophomore Reanna Murthy.
This win was a great success for the team, stopping their six league game losing streak. Now they are looking to keep the momentum moving forward with the start of the second half of league competition.
“In the future, we hope to keep our composure throughout the game and make the most of our opportunities.” Rebecca said.
The Eagles play next on January 29 at Palo Alto and on February 2 at home against Saratoga.
