For the first time in program history, the Los Altos High School varsity girls lacrosse team won their rivalry game against Mountain View High School, crushing the Spartans 12–7.
The Eagles started slowly, maintaining a 2–1 lead. According to junior Lola Bacchi, the team was lacking coordination and had multiple unforced errors in the first quarter.
“There were times that we weren’t fully working together, but we figured it out and played as a unit in the end,” junior Lola Bacchi said.
By addressing those issues later in the game, the Eagles were able to achieve victory. Entering the second quarter, the Eagles hit the gas, scoring three more goals and ending the half 5–3.
“We did a good job holding on to the ball, winning the draw and controlling the midfield,” senior Keira Reilly said. “All these aspects gave us the opportunities we needed to score.”
The Eagles kept their momentum rolling throughout the second half, scoring seven more goals and winning the game with a decisive 12–7. They celebrated the historic win against the Spartans, which none of the players had yet experienced.
“We have never been able to beat them, let alone get close in the past two years,” Lola said. “This was something we all really wanted.”
After winning their last game 13–10 against Castilleja High School on Monday, April 1 , the Eagles currently run an overall 4–4 record and a 3–2 league record. The Eagles next game will be a rematch against the Spartans at home, on Wednesday, April 3, at 7 p.m.
“One lesson we’ll take from this game is that no matter who we are playing, we will always play at our level and never stoop down to our opponent,” junior Tallulah Heath said.
