Girls soccer defeated visiting Gunn High School 2-0 on Friday January 28. Freshman forward Katarina Drake starred in the game, assisting on the first goal and scoring the second. The victory makes their league-record 2-3-2 after falling to Monta Vista High School 1-0 earlier this week.
Both goals were scored in the first half and, according to Katarina, the team’s success was because “the energy was really high… we made a lot of connections and were pressuring the defense well.”
The first goal was finished by Junior Sasha Pchenitchnikova after a through ball from Katarina ten minutes into the half. Continuing her positive play, Katarina then scored on a rocket shot from outside the 18-yard box on a pass from sophomore Sydney Carr before the end of the first half. The Eagles then held the lead through the second half.
Katarina said the game “was really exciting” and added that she feels “a lot more confident in my game now.”
The team plays their next game again Los Gatos on Monday, January 30th. They lost to Los Gatos 2-0 earlier this season.
