The varsity field hockey team started the season with two ties at the St. Francis tournament on Saturday, August 28. The team tied 0-0 against St. Francis and Archbishop Mitty, teams that are notoriously difficult.
“I think that this tournament foreshadows a very promising season for LAHS field hockey,” junior Lydia Vieraitis said.
Head Coach Mary Donahue said that the team is in a better position at the beginning of this season than it was at the end of last year.
The team overcame several difficulties in the tournament, including injuries and a lack of subs.
“One of the players got injured so one of the goalies played forward,” junior Lauren Amorese said.
“Considering the disadvantage of not having any subs, we played really well,” senior Laura Murphy said.
The team’s next tournament will be at Willow Glen High School from Friday, September 10 to Saturday, September 11.
