Field Hockey Falls to Mitty in Second Preseason Game

Freshman Karenna Olson surveys the field. The Eagles would ultimately fall to Archbishop Mitty.

The field hockey team competed in its second preseason game of the year today, Wednesday, September 9, in a home match against Mitty. The final score was five to zero, as the Los Altos team failed to score against a tough Mitty defense.

The game started even, as Los Altos was able to keep up with the Mitty players early on. However, as the game continued, Mitty began to establish dominance and take a commanding lead. They controlled much of the flow of the game and Los Altos at times seemed overmatched, although there were still moments where Los Altos flashed the potential to compete with Mitty.

“I think we worked really hard in the brutal heat and we did a good job fending off Mitty,” junior Charlize Zuraek said. “In all honesty, I think we have the skills and ability to beat these girls. But today we just let the nerves get the best of us.”

Mitty is one of the better teams in the area, and so the loss was not a surprise for a Los Altos team that has struggled to win games. The team will attempt to build on this game and improve, especially offensively, in the upcoming preseason games, to have momentum heading into the season. The first league match is scheduled for Tuesday, September 22, at Lynbrook.

“I think we definitely have room for improvement, but the team dynamic this year is awesome and we’ve made a tremendous amount of progress over the last couple of weeks which is very promising going into the season,” Charlize said.
