An education round table, led by Department of Education member Genevieve DeBose, took place on Thursday, February 16.

President Barack Obama recently proposed a budget that included $5 billion for schools. The round table was used to receive teacher feedback regarding how to best utilize the money to reform the education system.

The participants present deliberated how to help teachers who have the potential to be effective, but who are ineffective because of the system they are in.

The idea, which was met with general agreement, held that new teachers need to slowly gain responsibilities instead of being held to the same standard as more seasoned educators. Members at the round table also discussed the greater accountability for all parties, especially administrators.

Overall, the meeting focused on fixing problems in the current system and ensuring that change was implemented in a way that benefited all parties.
