In its fourth match this season, the wrestling team defeated Saratoga High School 66-17 on Thursday, January 19.
After moving into the upper league this year, the team started out with two tough losses to Gunn and Cupertino. However, the team has picked up momentum and this most recent win puts the team at a record of 2-2 overall.
“We’ve been gradually gaining momentum, and we are looking to dominate league finals and put our best foot forward at the CCS tournament,” sophomore John Naumovski said.
Saratoga was forced to forfeit several matches throughout the night as many of its wrestlers were injured. Because forfeits in wrestling are worth the same number of points as pins, LAHS gained a substantial lead.
However, even without taking the points from the forfeits into account, LAHS held a commanding lead throughout the match.
“Our toughest competition is still to come, in the form of Los Gatos and Palo Alto,” John said.
The team will try to continue its momentum in the meet against Los Gatos, which will take place Thursday, January 26.
