LAHS defeated Monta Vista in a close game today, September 21, taking the victory 3-2.
The first set was very close, with the lead going back and forth between the Eagles and the Matadors. Eagles clinched the win at 25-22, making for a positive start to the game.
Monta Vista took the second set with a surprising lead, shutting the Los Altos squad down at 15-25. The Eagles took the third set with a decisive victory, pulling away early in the game to win 25-12.
Despite the Eagle’s lead, Monta Vista wouldn’t go down without a fight. They played an impressive fourth set at 25-17. During the final set, the Eagles received some clutch service aces from Captain senior Heather Sangster. This final set sealed the deal and gave the Eagles their victory.
“We could’ve gone 25 to 10 each time but we were so tired and lacking in energy,” junior Nikki Klepper said. “It was hard because we didn’t pump ourselves up. We went into it expecting a win.”
The atmosphere in the gymnasium was heated–literally. A combination of a weak AC and the hot weather heated the gym up to around 80 degrees. Although the temperature took a toll on fans and players alike, there was still a good turnout in the stands, with the Sixth Man Club also present. The home team received stomps and whoops of encouragement.
Volleyball’s next home game will be against Homestead Thursday, September 22 at 6:45 p.m.
