The varsity baseball team defeated Mountain View High School (MVHS) Friday, April 1. The game continued the team’s success against the Spartans, following a win of 20-5 against MVHS on Wednesday, March 31.
The high-scoring offensive trend continued in the game today, when Eagles quickly scored six runs in the second inning. Junior Luke Wiechec hit a double, and junior Joseph Chedid also followed with a RBI double, bringing Luke home. This was followed by a single from junior Justin Visas and a RBI single from sophomore Steven McLean.
The Eagles then had three consecutive walks by senior Mitch Kehlet, senior Mat Snider, Jr. and junior Nolan O’Such. The inning was topped off by a line drive by junior Simon Rosenbaum, who brought home Mitch and Mat.
The Eagles took advantage of walks again in the third inning. Mat followed the walks with a two-run single, bringing home Justin and sophomore Dominic Gachina. Mitch later stole home, making the score 9-0 at the end of the third.
The Spartans failed to pass second base in the game and were not able to score any runs. However, the Eagles continued to get on base with a double from Simon, a walk for senior Mauro Roque and singles by Joseph and Justin. The team scored three runs, which were the last for the game.
The Eagles’ success is also attributed to Mitch, who threw a complete game shutout and only allowed one hit.
The Eagles will face against Bellarmine College Prepatory tomorrow, April 2.
