The varsity girls tennis team lost 4-3 in a non-league match to Notre Dame High School today, September 19. LAHS was edged out by Notre Dame in a tough battle.
The usual number singles, sophomore Avery Ikeda, played as number singles due to senior Lauren Liu’s absence. Throughout the match Avery played consistently, but knew when to take her chances and go for winners.
Although Avery won 7-5 and 6-0, she had some trouble with her opponent. Her soft-hitting opponent caused her some distress in the first set.
“I think I was pretty bad in the first set but then I came back, and … played well,” Avery said. “She didn’t hit with a lot of pace, so it was harder for me to get it back, but then I figured out how to [get it back].”
Another big win for the LAHS girls occurred during junior Amy Wang’s victory. Amy struck the ball well and played a clean match. Though she lost concentration a couple of times throughout the match, Amy found a way to win.
“I think I played pretty well today,” Amy said. “I let a couple easy points go, but generally it was pretty good.”
LAHS hopes to improve for its next match against its archenemies Mountain View High School (MVHS) this coming Thursday, September 22.
