Softball picked up an easy 10-0 win against Branham High School yesterday, May 15, in the first round of CCS. Despite recently coming off two tough losses to Homestead and Wilcox and not performing its best in other games, the Lady Eagles were able to focus on the game at hand.
“The past few weeks, we were in a slump,” senior Nikki Klepper said. “Even though we won most of the games, they were really ugly wins, so the fact that we finished league play and are now entering into another level of play kind of kick started us and got us super excited to play.”
The team took a lead early on and never looked back. With a deadly combination of a tough defense and offense, Los Altos was able to rally with a series of powerful hits in the fourth inning, ending any chance of a comeback from Branham.
Los Altos will be playing Saratoga High School, the league champions of the lower division, in the quarterfinals of CCS on Saturday, May 18, at the PAL Stadium. Saratoga defeated Valley Christian High School 6-3 to advance to the quarterfinals.
“It is hard to tell [how good Saratoga is] because their record is really good, but they’re in a lower division,” Nikki said. “We’ll just have to come out swinging.”
