Power Outage Affects Los Altos

A power outage lasting 2 hours and 25 minutes left many students’ homes and Los Altos businesses without electricity this morning, Saturday, March 21. The outage began at 10:35 a.m., and power was fully restored at 1 p.m.

According to Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) spokesperson J.D. Guidi, 21,832 customers lost power in Los Altos, Mountain View, Los Gatos, Cupertino and Sana Cruz. Guidi said the cause of the outage is still being investigated, but the company knows it resulted from a mishap at the Monta Vista substation in Cupertino.

Many students were inconvenienced by the outage and were glad when the lights came back on Saturday afternoon.

“I was at the Main Street Café,” freshman Alexis Miller said. “And when the power went out I couldn’t have my breakfast.”
