On Thursday, March 27, it quickly became obvious that Los Altos was simply too much for the Gunn Titans. The Eagles played a strong all-around game that lifted them above Gunn 16-4.
Though the game started fairly close, effective leadership from captains senior Casey Hanni and junior AJ Guralas enabled the Eagles to tighten up their defense and get the offense going. Sophomore Matt Heintzen also helped lead the team with a strong performance, winning face-offs and scoring goals.
“We really just started getting more offensive chances…and our goalies really had a great game,” senior Alex Stuwe said.
In the goal were seniors Dave Huffman and Steven Jenab, who played in the first and second halves, respectively, both of whom only let in two goals each.
On top of playing effective defense and offense, the Eagles also received support from the team’s coaches.
“Our coaches gave us the passion we needed, they were very supportive and that was definitely a factor,” Casey said.
Lacrosse’s next game is against Woodside High School on March 29.
“Woodside is really one of our bigger opponents but after this game and our game against Saratoga, [15-2] we are very confident,” Casey said.
