The varsity lacrosse team shut out Woodside High School 9-0 today, April 17, in a victory which showcased a strong defensive effort coupled with smart and efficient ball control by Los Altos.
“[Woodside’s offense] didn’t give me too many opportunities to make plays but I went 3 for 3 today,” goaltender senior Chuck Kuo said.
The Eagles’ offense started off hot and took a 4-0 lead into halftime. In addition, Los Altos limited Woodside’s opportunities and kept its offense in check with strong defensive play.
“We had a shutout win today so our defense is obviously playing great,” Chuck said.
Los Altos notched two more goals in the third quarter and three in the fourth to clinch the shutout victory over Woodside. The offense capitalized on opportunities from Woodside turnovers and managed a safe, ball control style of offense as they racked up the score.
Players with notable defensive performances included seniors Todd Grimm and Niko Rose, who logged in many minutes as they created turnovers and helped keep Woodside out of its offensive zone.
“No one really matches up with our defense [in the league],” Chuck said. “If you watch today, you’re basically seeing how they’ve played every game this year.
The Eagles will face off against Carlmont High School on Thursday, April 19.
