Haiti Solidarity and Amnesty International are holding a joint open mic night tomorrow night from 6 to 9 p.m. It will be held in the multi-purpose room at Alta Vista High School. Tickets will be $5 at the door, and there will also be food for sale.
All the proceeds will go to SOPUDEP, the school’s “sister school” in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. This financial aid will help SOPUDEP with rising rent and a lack of government help.
“The open mic night is a great way to help out Haiti and give aspiring musicians and poets a chance to showcase their talents,” Haiti Solidarity member junior Anica Nangia said. “There’s a lot of talent right here at Los Altos and in our area so it’ll be exciting to watch.”
The Haiti Solidarity Club has had much student interest over the past year. The club has therefore departmentalized into sections: science and bio, sports, music and arts, and fundraising departments. The club also makes trips to Haiti to give support.
