This past weekend, the girls varsity water polo team participated in the St. Francis Autumn Invitational Tournament. The team played a series of games against four different teams, ultimately winning two of the games and losing two.
On Friday, the team played against St. Francis and St. Ignatius. Although the Eagles first took a tough 1-10 loss to the Lancers, the team was able to bounce back from their loss to defeat St. Ignatius.
“Our first game was against Saint Francis and we lost to them,” freshman Julia Santos said. “But then at the end, we came together and got rid of all our nerves and beat Saint Ignatius.”
This scenario played out again on Saturday, with the Eagles falling to Castilleja, but managing to pull themselves back together for the second game of the day and beat Menlo Atherton 5-3.
“I think that in the two games we won, we played some of the best water polo we have as a team,” co-captain junior Christina Pao said. “For the other two games we just didn’t come out with enough fight.”
Although the team had a strong showing against Saint Ignatius and Menlo Atherton, the team still looks to improve its communication skills.
“We need to learn how to communicate more because that helps us know what is happening in the game,” Julia said. “[Communication] helps our teammates if they are lagging behind.”
Los Altos enters the pool for its next game on Thursday, September 18, in an away game against the Homestead Mustangs.
