The girls volleyball team secured a 3-0 straight-set victory over Monta Vista, yesterday, September 24: 25-6, 25-21 and 25-18.
The team started out with a huge lead in the first game. The team attributed their success to seniors Hanna Koehler, who tactically set up offensive plays with quality sets, and Katie Tritschler, who proved to be the core of the team’s defense. With many serving streaks and aces, the team was able to maintain this lead throughout the first game and secure a quick win.
However, the team started to crumble in the second game. They took their first game for granted and began to lose focus. Hitting errors became more apparent and the defense struggled to follow through.
“We know we can play much better but instead we played down to the other team’s level,” junior Kristen Liu said. “Hopefully when tougher matches come up we will play our game.”
Regardless, the team was able to power through and take the second and third games. Although their blocking improved, the team believes their success came from the non-technical factors: emotional encouragement and synergetic chemistry.
“We always stick together as a team and cheer each other on when it’s rough, which allowed us to push through even when we had a bad start,” Kristen said.
With a win under their belt, the team hopes to ride this momentum in matches to come. The Eagles will play Los Gatos at home on Thursday, October 3.
