Today, September 18, girls’ tennis defeated Milpitas High School.
This was not a league game, but the team still did well, winning seven of eight total matches for a final score of 7-1.
The scrimmage foreshadows a good upcoming season. The team has already played a tournament at Fresno, where they lost two games but also won two against Saratoga and Monte Vista, last year’s NorCal champion. This almost complete defeat of Milpitas indicates the team’s success will continue.
At the beginning of the season, head coach Hung Nguyen was worried about the team being unbalanced.
“Our strength is heavily in singles but as the season goes by [the doubles are] going to pick it up and we’re probably going to be more of an even team,” Nguyen said.
The doubles did well today, winning all of their matches, so it seems that the doubles teams are able to hold their own weight with the strong singles. The only loss was the singles 4 match, which was due to a change in the lineup.
The team will Mountain View tomorrow, September 19 at 3:30 in a home game.
