The varsity girls soccer team was defeated by the Saratoga High School Falcons today, January 23. The team got off to a bad start, letting in one goal within the first 10 minutes to a breakaway.
This loss is the Eagles’ first loss in the league, breaking their winning streak and making their league record 5-1-1. However, they are still optimistic about their chances to be league champions.
“It makes us determined to win all of our other games,” sophomore Nicole Atkins said. “We also have to hope that the other teams won’t do as well when they play each other.”
After the team gave up an early goal, it found itself hard-pressed to recover. The Eagles were unable to retaliate in the rest of the game, resulting in the first loss of the league. However, this game was not against the Eagles’ biggest in league game.
“Los Gatos [High School] is our biggest competition, and we beat them yesterday,” Nicole said. “We have to make sure we defeat them again.”
Los Gatos is 6-1-0 in the league, and is a major competitor for the title of league champions. The team will play Los Gatos in the last game in the season. The team’s next game is on Monday, January 28 against Fremont High School.
