The varsity girls basketball team won against Fremont High School 42-37 today, January 13. Despite a weak start, the team quickly pulled ahead during the third quarter. While Fremont narrowed the gap in the fourth quarter, the Eagles remained in the lead and ultimately won the game.
“I think they learned that the game isn’t over until its over, until the shot clock says zero,” Coach Kevin Lee said. “Even in a matter of seconds, at the end of a game the game could turn back around. They toughed it out and they did a good job.”
Senior Lauren Amorese was a major force in the game, contributing a multitude of points and often grabbing rebounds.
“We just need to come out and be ready to play in the first quarter,” Lee said. “[We need to learn] how to play the basketball game as soon as we hit the floor. Coming out with defensive intensity, making sure we’re rebounding, and the rest will come to us.”
The girls will play at and against Homestead High School on Tuesday, January 17 at 7 p.m.
