Yesterday, October 31, Los Altos field hockey defeated Homestead High School 1-0 in their first win of the season. Homestead had defeated the team in their previous encounter 1-0, but a goal by junior Nicole Atkins in the first half ensured that this didn’t occur again.
The Eagles played a well rounded game throughout and were able to hold on to the win by means of a solid defense. This year, the Eagles have struggled on both ends: offense and defense. In this game, they were able to score a timely goal and step up their defense to secure the win.
“I think we all wanted to keep the advantage throughout the game,” senior Emma Orner said. “We were all playing for our seniors and I think we all wanted to make them proud.”
It was also senior night for Los Altos, making the win even more significant. Seven seniors were honored: Ariel Machell, Emily Sims, Emma Orner, Kira Winner, Audrey Miller-Foreman, Naomi Palmer and Michelle Staufenbiel.
With this win under its belt, Los Altos looks to win its last game of the season against Saratoga High School in an away game on Tuesday, November 5.
Well personally to me it didn’t really feel like a win,” Emma said. “I like to think of it as just playing a game that I love. However, it definitely feels good to remember my last home game as a win.”
