The Talon and New Media Lit are excited to announce our collaboration starting the 2022–2023 school year.

Dear Los Altos,

It is a student journalist’s job to provide their community with a comprehensive outlet for local news. So far, Los Altos High School’s two publications — The Talon and New Media Lit — have been working toward this common goal, but we’ve been doing it separately.

We realized our audience would greatly benefit from the intersection of The Talon and New Media Lit’s content, so we’re excited to announce our publications’ collaboration starting the 2022–2023 school year.

As student journalists, it is our responsibility to provide you with coverage in the most efficient way possible. However, dividing our journalism program accomplished the opposite. While The Talon typically focuses on print journalism, producing both online content and print issues, New Media Lit is a broadcast publication, producing solely video content. Our collaboration will provide you with a complete, holistic publication; we’re dedicated to approaching all stories through a multimedia lens.

So, here’s what that will look like.

For the rest of this school year, New Media Lit’s content will be published to The Talon’s online accounts. Now you’ll receive both broadcast and written content through one consolidated source — there won’t be any confusion.

Starting the 2022–2023 school year, New Media Lit will adopt The Talon’s name and the two publications will centralize all content on The Talon’s platforms. Although The Talon’s logo won’t change, you’ll now see New Media Lit’s signature flame on our platforms.

We’re excited to redefine what journalism will look like to you at Los Altos High School. We’re no longer divided; we won’t call ourselves just photographers, or just writers or just videographers — we’re journalists.

We hope you’re looking forward to this as much as we are and are grateful for your support as we integrate our journalism programs.

Best,
Anika Sikka, Editor-in-Chief of The Talon
