The first cross country SCVAL meet took place on Tuesday, September 23, in Central Park in Santa Clara. The course in Central Park is relatively flat compared to many of the other courses, and the temperature was warm but not too hot: perfect for a race.
Unfortunately, none of Los Altos’ top seven boy and girl runners ran in the meet, which hindered the teams chances of winning. The Eagles were unable to keep up without their fastest runners, and the boys and girls teams placed 9th and 12th, respectively.
For a team that normally places in the top five at meets, this was a disappointing finish, but the fact that the rest of the teams at the meet had their full contingents of runners, shows Los Altos’ depth.
“We didn’t place as well without our [usual] varsity team, but we all ran our hardest and did our best and finished better than I expected,” sophomore Andrew Young said.
The team’s next SCVAL meet is Thursday, October 2, at Crystal Springs.
