Boys basketball continued to make the beginning of their season strong with a 54-46 victory against Wilcox High School on Friday, January 18. The team set the bar high for themselves by destroying Lynbrook High School 71-26 earlier in the week, and followed through to make this game just as good.
The game was a continuous nail-biter as the scores were no further apart than a few points throughout the entire game, and the game ended with a score of 54-46. At halftime, the Eagles were losing 26-27. However, by the third quarter, the team pulled ahead and was winning 38-37.
“We started the game off slow, allowing them to dictate the game,” sophomore Daniel Rosenbaum said. “Also, on defense we started off gambling too much and going for too many chances, rather than containing with pressure like we have practiced. But, going into the locker room at halftime, we knew that we had to be more decisive on offense and make quicker decisions.”
The team worked well together on the court throughout the game, but it was really in the second half that the team was able to come together and pull ahead of Wilcox to secure the win.
“Overall, it was a hard-fought basketball game,” Daniel said. “We never gave up and finished incredibly strong, playing the basketball how we want to play, which allowed us to gain the advantage.”
